WHAT HAPPENED TO THEIR CAREERS?

So many times in Hollywood you see stars rise and fall. I hate seeing good actors have their career go down the drain. Here are some people I'm wondering what happened to and what went wrong.

CUBA GOODING JR.

When I first saw Cuba Gooding Jr. he was in Jerry Maguire, which I love. He ended up winning an Oscar for his role and made a couple of good films after that, but in the past two years alone, he has had eight straight to dvd movies. He has obviously been busy if he has released eight movies in two years, but what happened? Why can't he get the good roles and why hasn't he fired his agent yet?

Career Highs: Boys n the Hood, Jerry Maguire, Gladiator, Radio
Career Lows: Boat Trip, Snow Dogs, Daddy Day Camp

VAL KILMER

Kilmer's first big role was Iceman in Top Gun. He has had several good films since then including one of the most famous characters of the 90's Doc Holliday and even got to play Batman in Batman Forever. Some people say that he is the best Bruce Wayne so far. I don't agree but several people say he is. In 2005, he stared alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which I loved but it didn't get a wide release. It could have spawned a sequel in my opinion. Now, he too has fallen into a direct to dvd curse. The guy needs to lose some weight too.

Career Highs: Top Gun, The Doors, Tombstone, Heat, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Career Lows: Red Planet, The Saint, Mindhunters, Alexander

HALLE BERRY

Halle Berry fools a lot of people I think, because people consider her an "A" list actress. I do think she is a good actress, but she has been in a lot of crap. She won an Oscar for Monster's Ball and then follows that with the horror flop Gothika. Then there was Catwoman. One of the worst movies ever made, and so bad that she was nominated for a Razzie for worst actress in it. She won and actually showed up to receive her award. I give her props for owning up to that mess. I liked her as Storm in the X-Men movies and hope to see her in that role some more. But lately she has just been off the map, her last big movie was X-Men: The Last Stand and then there was the short lived Things We Lost In the Fire, and the horrible film with Bruce Willis Perfect Stranger. Where is Halle Berry at, and is she going to show us what she can do or not?

Career Highs: Executive Decision, X-Men franchise, Monster's Ball
Career Lows: B*A*P*S, Gothica, Catwoman

NICOLAS CAGE

This guy is too easy to pick on. His career started off respectable, but in the last five years he has made crap film, after crap film. It seems like Cage has gone through three phases in his career with a fourth one approaching. His first phase was what I'll call "under the radar" movies. Nothing phenomenal, nothing horrible. Things like Raising Arizona, Honeymoon In Vegas, Guarding Tess, and of course Leaving Las Vegas for which he won an Oscar for. So Cage wins an Oscar and then begins phase two of his career which is "action star". He released action movie after action movie for the next four years including Face Off, The Rock, Con Air and Gone In Sixty Seconds. After his big budget action movie phase was over he then turned to the "worst movies ever" phase. During this phase he released horrible films such as Ghost Rider, The Wicker Man, Next, Bangkok Dangerous and Knowing. He has made some pretty good films in between crap ones like The Weather Man, Lord of War and yes, the National Treasure films. I like the National Treasure films because they are fun, I realize they aren't perfect. Now it looks like his next phase may be animation. He just did The Ant Bully and G Force, which both were god awful and now he is also voicing in the upcoming animated movie Astro Boy.

Career Highs: Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, The Rock, Face Off and yes, National Treasure
Career Lows: Ghost Rider, The Wicker Man, Next, Bankok Dangerous,

RENEE ZELWEGGER
Here is another actress I thought was going to be a big timer. She also got her big break with Jerry Maguire. She has done a variety of films from romantic, comedy, and drama. She won an Oscar for her performance in Cold Mountain. She hasn't been in anything that has blown people away and mainly gets criticized for her up down weight problems. I want to like her but she just doesn't give me much. I just think she needs to pick her films better.

Career Highs: Jerry Maguire, Bridgete Jones Diary, Cold Mountain, Chicago, Cinderella Man
Career Lows: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, Nurse Betty, Shark Tale, Leatherheads New In Town

We could go on for days about has beens in Hollywood. Who are you wondering about?

  1. Cuba Gooding Jr. was in Gladiator???

I would like to add Hayden Christensen to the list. He started off his career with a couple of good indie movies The Virgin Suicides and Life as a House. Then he did the Star Wars films which were supposed to make him a super star. Since then he has done Factory Girl, Awake, and Jumper. All 3 are garbage.

  2. Elijah Wood is someone I haven't heard from in forever. I know he is doing the upcoming film "9" but other than that, I haven't seen him in anything really good other than Sin City and the Lord of the Rings franchise.
