MOVIE REVIEW: 2012

The plot of this film really needs no introduction. After numerous solar flares from the sun occur, the Earth's core begins to soften causing the Earth's crust to collapse, a super volcano to form and numerous tsunami waves form which somehow are taller than the Himalayas.

I will warn there are some spoilers in my review.

This film was actually enjoyable.......until the disaster begins. The movie just has to many convenience scenes. What I mean by that is:
"Oh no the plane is going down. Well luckily the cargo has cars in it so we can just drive off the plane in the snowy mountains in the middle of nowhere. Ok, we made it out alive now what, were in the middle of nowhere? Oh hey look coincidentally there are helicopters flying over us as soon as we get off the plane, they will pick us up. Oh darn, we don't have tickets for the archs, they are going to leave us here. Oh great look, there is a truck that is driving by literally right after we get left by the helicopters. What, you just so happen to be a relative of someone who is building the arch and has built a secret back door for you guys? Can we come? Great thanks."

Literally happens scene for scene. The graphics are great and I had only one problem with the cast which came from some no name guy that they have as an assistant to one of the scientists who just blew every scene he was in.

One thing that bothered me though, was that it seemed Emmerich took many things from his previous films and things he has seen from other films, and thrown it in to make this film. This made the film lose a lot of originality to me, because I'm sitting here thinking, "That was done in "Independence Day", he did that already in "The Day After Tomorrow", they got that from "Poseidon".

Whether you end up liking the film or not, you will come away entertained. Some parts I was genuinely entertained at, and some parts I was entertained laughing at. Is it worth a watch? I think it is, but you just have to know what to expect and if you have seen one of Emmerich's films before, which you probably have, then you will be fine. If you really want to enjoy the film, walk out every time a disaster scene starts and walk back in after its over. I'll be generous with it and give it a three out of five.
